My last day-job before working for myself was a ten-year gig, and I am lucky enough to have met dozens of crazy-talented people working in the publishing industry for so long. Some of them even like to hang out and get brunch with me still, like this fine lady on this fine day.
Also, dog! Days are better when there are dogs in them:
I recommended we take the South Van Ness/Folsom route down to the 24th Street end of the Mission so that we could eat at the St. Francis. And, what do you know, we’ll be near a Philz… (I may have quit a bunch of bad habits, but you will pry my coffee from my cold dead hands!) Along 24th Street, there is a realtor with these signs in the window….
I am a total sucker for vintage ephemera, and the hand-lettering and old photos going on here are super-neat. ALSO, if you have an inkling of how crazy-bananas the housing and rental situation is in San Francisco these days, you will find an added layer of interest. I literally had to stop and laugh for a couple of minutes just to get out of my system how wild the idea of buying an entire building in San Francisco for these prices feels. Can you even imagine???!
MUST LEARN HOW TO TIME TRAVEL.
I decided to live dangerously and eat potatoes, which are full of starch, which turns to sugar. In effort to get my blood sugar down (for not-giving-myself-diabetes purposes, and for reducing the swelling in my disks purposes), I had stuck exclusively to the four foods groups (cheese, vegetables, almonds, and coffee—obviously) since I first saw Doctor G. The potato carbs in my breakfast tasted amazing, but the rest of my body was displeased with my decision. OKAY FINE! More kale it is… I am slowly turning into an actual rabbit… (Is there an adjective that means both frustrated and grateful at the same time?)
I turned AQ on to Philz, and then we headed walked a few more blocks and had a lovely time catching up at Precita Park…
The tiny piece of grass stuck on the button of my shoe had been there since last week’s walk to Precita… I left it there as a reminder of the whole healing process: goals, friends, support, etc.
Every dog who came to the park that day HAD to run over and sit on AQ’s lap at some point. She is a puppy magnet, among her many other talents and good qualities…
Where should I go tomorrow?
